Flat Roofs, Structure and Cover Materials
Most pitched roofs only support covering materials via battens spaced at intervals. Occasionally a pitched roof may be boarded too, but this is unusual, except in areas where the weather is severe. The contrast in structure is also accompanied by differences in their respective covering materials. A pitched roof is usually covered with small overlapping units such as tiles or slates. These will not keep out the weather on a flat roof and a continuous sheeting in needed instead. The long performance of a flat roof and pitched roof is also dissimilar on account of the different speeds at which the water is discharged. There is less likelihood of weather damage on a roof where the discharge of water is rapid, and pitched roofs have a clear advantage in this respect. However, flat roofs are cheaper to build and are not liable to failure, provide the design, choice of materials and workmanship standards are followed by London Roofers. In most cases, flat roofs are not flat. Every effort is made to remove surface water quickly and efficiently.
