Normal finish is blackish in colour,and fairly smooth, but coloured finishes are available. It provides little contribution to the thermal insulation of a roof,but that can be improved by using insulation(cold/warm roof). Built-up roofing consists of three layers of bitumen felt laid ,to give a life of upwards of eight years.* It is a cheap way to build a roof,in terms of material cost and labour.

Natural colours include wide range of browns.Glazed colours include green and blue. The tiles have an excellent durability and gives the building itself a very solid look. Some types of tiles are recomended to be used in combination with a Breathable membrane as underlay.
